  1. With how Santiago and how his part of the story works makes me think there will most likely be 2 modes to Ark2. A smaller story mode medium where you travel alongside Santiago to achieve some kind of goal with just yourself or you and a few friends, and a larger sandbox mode where smaller tidbits of a story are there, but less so.

  2. I Just fear that ark 2 become too much of a Story game, rather than a "build your own stuff/Story and survive" game.
Of course, you're absolutely right with the fact, that telling the Story through Explorer notes isnt very accessible, but for me personally that's something i absolutely love in games:
Games you are able to Just play how you want and, most importantly, Set your Focus on what you want.
You only want to Do pvp? Then Do so.
You only want to play pve and build a lot of cool stuff? Then you can also Just Do that.
And those who really wanted to get behind the Story, can also Just Do that, by either collecting and reading the notes themselves or through a bit of research online.
Simply put it Just Gives you a looot of freedom in choosing how you play the game and this has become really scarce nowadays in the game Industry.

Now if ark 2 abandons that System, does more of a storydriven, quest lead approach with maybe npc interactions and for example telling the Story through cutscene-exposition or something like that, this will have to be forced onto the Player (because if they're gonna put money into animating, voicing and producing that stuff they'll definetely make sure that everyone Sees it), which in turn Takes away a lot of the "play Just like you want" feel i think, because no matter if you wanna play only pvp, pve or whatever Else there is, you cant decide if you want to go After the notes or not, no, youll be forced to watch the cutscenes no matter what, youll be forced to go After the Story, no matter if you want it or not.
I already wasn't a Fan of the genesis approach with Missions, forcing the Player into certain scenarios with certain play-types instead of the free Form "get through the cave your own way and get the artefact"
And Just for clarification, i absolute love the ark Story, i collected all the notes myself and i will of course be hyped for how the Story continues. I Just like it more free Form, leaving the "how" fully to my Imagination instead of forcing me to Do it a certain way.

Edit: Well nevermind, as always i should have Finished the vid before commenting, i Paused the Video exactly before you said the Same stuff i Just wrote, so Yeah, that's that then xd

  3. I think Ark 2 will start us off as an undercover agent for Rockwell. We are tasked with infiltrating Santiago's tribe. As this tribe is very heavily involved in a huge Gallimimus race ring. We have to take them down. So we show them our race skills and become a part of the family. From there, who knows where the adventure will take us.

  4. My experience with Fallout 76's holo tape mechanic was, completely awful, I think a lot of it is attributed to the UI, in how you just have to scroll through until you find the one you want. I often found myself un-interested is listening to them unless there was a freaking deactivated Nuclear bomb next to it. I would much prefer an active approach to missions, Audio logs and stuff you pick up in the open world create challenges as in, if you don't make them play automatically upon being picked up, then players don't want to read them. if you do make them, players will be annoyed when Santiago is telling them about how he committed Tax evasion while they are being eaten by a massive group of spiders. What I really want to see is a separated mix of Open world and Linear stuff. What we thought the Gen 2 missions were going to be and then they ended up not being that. Have like adventures with characters who deliver lore and instructions in the missions, so none of that has to happens in the Open world environment where people are free to do what they want.

  5. How Wildcard tells the story in the next game is the most important thing IMO. On the original story maps the player had to seek out the story. I loved exploring each map for pieces of the puzzle. Players who were not interested in the backstory could just enjoy the sandbox. I'm going to be 100% honest. I hated how the story was told in Genesis 1 and 2. HLN-A was the worst thing that was added in any DLC. Also, the boring missions that prevented the player from taming dino's and fighting the bosses were terrible.

  6. I guess this is the best place to give these notes. I dont think it would make sense to have no friendly human npcs. Limiting them or doing an mmo thing for hubworlds might then be a necessity , but as we have seen , hundreds landed and at least a few will have made it. Then of course the prospect of beeing the survivor from gen 2 still stands. The combination of , if failing, exo mek and tek suit will probably keep you alive in the crash. They could pull an good old memory loss or something similar, but i think it would at least be weird to have the survivor that killed rockwell unmentioned. Especially as HLNA is depicted on a drawing in the trailer.

  7. It might be interesting to see a sort of Far cry approach. The worlds got quests that have you meeting certain criteria, you unlock abilities and and knoweldge through them, and as they go on you have side quests like searching a bunker to find a note from the locals or something of a similar vein.

  8. I would much rather have Ark 2 story beats be in the caves like a illustrated story. Then having them slowly ramp into a tek style cave like seen in the trailer. Now Ark2's story is going to be interesting I would love to know what happens on earth after the aberrant ark crashed down into it sense there is no sanitago on this place how will earth fair?

  9. It could be Rockwell as the antagonist…….in the cut scene, isn't there 2 planets? Perhaps as the game expands, like in ark with the dlcs from primitive through to more tek style, perhaps we go to Rockwells planet or he comes to ours? Who knows, very excited for the game, roll on December

  10. So wait, if on an Ark two survivors have a baby, does the baby have an implant? Or would they need another person to act as translator? That seems like a bit of hindsight on the URE's part.

  11. This may be a stretch but hear me out, what if Ark 2's story work similar to Terraria. In Terraria, which is a 2D sandbox survival game, kinda like minecraft but with more mechanics, you are free to do anything you want until you hit certain criteria, such as beating a boss, to progress further in the game to unlock new resources/tools/armor/etc. What if Ark 2 works like that, where you can be free to do anything you want and in order to progress in the game to unlock new tools, items, saddles, armor, engrams, etc. You have to do specific things such as do missions, explore story areas such as settlements or caves, tame specific creatures or a certain amount of creatures, kill a boss creature, etc. That why there is still a story and also give players liberty to do what they want. The only con being that in order to Progress and unlock more resources, they have to interact with the story.

  12. What would be cool is if some parts of the story are told in the strange tek-y rooms we saw at the end of the trailer, perhaps a kind of key system from Santiago or perhaps collecting artifacts could do something to you implant which lets you unlock the rooms. Feel free to adapt in the reply’s.

  13. I think part of the landscape will be the husk of the Gen 2 ship. With the player character following in his footsteps trying to figure out his whereabouts or the tribe's as shown in the trailer. It seems the no tek thing would be Santiago refusal to use element in any shape or form from his previous lives?. I can see collector notes being a thing perhaps certian story beats, like crafting certian things or discovering very key places and more obvious parts of artifact caves?

  14. Would it be possible that we start the game as our previous character (in the story, not with our items / stats obviously) falling and crashing in the Exo Mek? That way we can take HLNA's message and 'build a new world'

  15. Nice theory, but i would u suggest to thing about how the genesis 1 works, how u teleport between biomes, okay, now look at the Atlas(other game they test things),on the officials they split the map in parts, have huge portals in the ocean to navigate throgh tham..now my theory is they test some mecanics on the Atlas for Ark 2,of course there they introduce some wonders and other stuff,i dont play anymore that game cuz i hate official servers for the every month wipes 🙂 ,but i belive on Atlas they test mecanics for Ark 2..i could be wrong but who know 🙂 Anyway,u make great content, keep going.

  16. One question I have about Ark's lore is what really happened on Earth. We cleanse it from element and all, survivors come out from the Arks but after that bit of insight on Extinction we don't really know anything else. Feels a bit weird that the main storyline of Ark (being this the first 4 official maps) is left unanswered and we follow up the Genesis storyline. Maybe it will be a DLC or something who knows.

  17. I asked them a couple questions via Twitter like if there would be seasonal migration of some creatures or like the possibility to slip on mud and they said that one will happen and one might happen

  18. I think characters may be for cutscenes only, and when they leave you wouldn't be able to find them as npc.
Also, supply pods wouldn't make sense now, as there isn't anything to sent them.
I think subnauticas ransaked pods may take their place, as there are hostile humanoids on planet as it seems.
