"What happens in the game effects the tv show" that actually HAS been done before. Specifically I recall QUANTUM BREAK doing that, where the global achievements earned and the secrets discovered, actually contributed to the next script, which aired on Xbox One Streaming, and only had 4 episodes, so not many people saw it.
And yes you are thinking about DEFIANCE being a TV show and an MMORPG. Both of which failed dramatically. They ruined the show by the 3rd season, and the MMORPG was a complete broken mess from launch to death
