  1. As you said it sounds great on paper but I don't think we'll get half this stuff after what we've seen with Wildcard's other games, honestly it sounds so different from what we have in Ark 1 that I'm not really interested. The crafting sounds like it's from the Forest, the hunting sounds like a horror game and the 3rd person seems like it will kill any kind of fear players have. Overall just seems like a really weird mix of changes for no reason.

Who knows it could be great, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

  2. Just like you said, it sounds incredibly ambitious, which if all true also means it's really exciting. But with prior experiences of wildcard releases I'm uncertain they'll be able to measure up to the hype.
That said, their animated series project is looking surprisingly good as well, and something I never would have expected out of ark of all things, but then also, the lore introduced in later expansions I also never expected and that so far has been fairly interesting too.
Pretty neat, and while I am no fan of broken promises, if they can deliver on even half of these promised features it still sounds like a game I'd be into, even if that means the other half of those, well, don't turn out to exist.

  3. Regarding the souls-like combat and parkour, I think I know how it will look.
Conan Exiles has basically the same mechanics:
You're able to climb the terrain and buildings and it's combat allows you to lock on to targets being more focused on dodging and blocking compared to ARK

  4. The game is probably not being delayed because of the “coming soon” on steam. Steam did a update in Jan for how up-coming games are shown. This is why a lot of games were changed from coming 2023 to coming soon although they are coming at this year. But wildcard didn’t give a release date which is why it’s staying as coming soon.

  5. the raptor in game should be Utahraptor not Velociraptor, through they are just called raptor in game, the dossier lists them as a fictional species of Utahraptor, the new redesigned ones have an updated model with more feathering, however it would be nice to get Velociraptor in the game as well, mabye can replace the role Troodon did in the first game now that Troodon is defunct.

  6. I'm so excited for Ark 2, the terrain and dino upgrades are so good on paper
For tek, I reckon that it'll be present in the form of the Genisis Colony Ship ruins and you might be able to salvage some of it
I think that there might be a story mode and survival mode

  7. Pretty comprehensive video, esp for those that aren't always on top of ARK news. For ARK lore I would heavily recommend NeddytheNoodle here on YT, which does an amazing job of translating the fragments of the ARK dossiers and explorer notes into full blown Machinimas or in game animations.
I am pretty hyped about the modding aspect of ARK 2 and the notion of ARK1 UE5 update. If Wildcard can pull it it off it be amazing.

  8. The way the game was described reminds me of the game Ancestors Humankind Odyssey about survival and finding the right combinations, and masking your scent and hearing and all

  9. So, Capcom actually does 'Soulslike combat' – that predates the Souls games – with their Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma series of games, and many of those creatures are either the size of dinosaurs or are straight-up dinosaurs themselves, so we know that such a gameplay style is possible to have work.

The difference, though, is that those aren't survival style games, not really. In Monster Hunter, your character might have to eat a steak to keep their stamina bar up, or sharpen a weapon to keep its attack damage up, but that's a far cry from having to balance hunger meters, hydration meters, weapon durability where the weapons break, so on and so forth. I doubt they'd go for the full Capcom experience, but maybe 'Monster Hunter light,' where the combat is more dynamic than Ark 1, but less tanky than Capcom's offerings.

  11. I don't know if they will end up delivering on everything they say they will by launch (whenever that actually ends up being), but having enjoyed original ARK for more than half a decade at this point, I have faith that Wildcard will get to it all eventually.

  12. Seems like its gonna be something like Monster hunter world meets Dark souls gameplay. Very interesting also the better AI will make the game much scarier. Imagine hearing the deep rumbling bellow of the rex vibrating your controller as it tracks you
